Living Social Open Water Course

The fun and adventure in diving starts now at RC Scuba Center.

Your PADI OpenWater Diver Course is divided into four segments:

 

  • Orientation – Pickup books and learning materials, get homework assignments, purchase your required 5 basic items (mask, snorkel, gloves, boots, and fins) and do your swim test
  • Class Room Session – Approximately 4-6 Hours Covering Five Chapters
  • Pool Session – Approximately 4-6 Hours
  • Ocean – Open Water Ocean Dives (4 Dives over a Two Day Period at Catalina Island’s “Casino Point”** Any makeup or additional dives needed during the pool or ocean session will require an additional charge **

 

 REQUIRED GEAR:

  • Silicone Dive Mask (Properly fitted)
  • Snorkel
  • Dive Fin with Heel Strap (Properly fitted to your Boots)
  • Neoprene Boots (5mm thickness or more)
  • Neoprene Gloves (3mm thickness or more)

Note: This Equipment is Required “Basic” Gear at ALL Dive Shops and is not included in the Class. If you Purchase this Gear at our recommeded vendor, you will get a low price on all Items!

All gear must be SCUBA quality. Basic Equipment will run $150 and up, based on YOUR choice of gear selection.

 

CATALINA WEEKEND FOR LIVING SOCIAL PARTICIPANTS:

This is our Favorite Program and also Big Fun! The ocean weekend is two full days on Catalina Island making your Open Water Dives off Casino Point! See schedules below.

Starting Your PADI Open Water Class:

  • Select your open water class from the schedule below.
  • Call us to place your name on the roster (once your name has been placed on the roster you are committed to that class. No refunds or changes will be accepted).
  • Attend one of the two orientations available to get all of your materials and do your swim test. Please call to reserve your spot.
  • It is recommended that you get fitted for SCUBA gear and purchase your basic snorkel gear during your orientation at our recommended dive shop. If you purchase from other dive shops of your choice, please bring the items to your orientation for approval.
  • Prior to your first day of class, read your PADI Open Water Book, watch the DVD in it’s entirety, and Complete All 5 Knowledge Reviews at the end of each Chapter.
  • Obtain 2 passport style photos.
  • Fill out your Medical release in FULL. If you answer ANY of the questions on the Medical Form “Yes” you will need to get a signed release from your Doctor.

 

Bring to your orientation:

  • Swimsuit and towel.
  • Your Signed Medical Release. (Doctor’s Release if you answered any Medical Questions “Yes”).
  • Passport photos.
  • Any gear purchased from other dive shops.

 

Logistics of The Catalina Dive Weekend:

Saturday morning you’ll take the Catalina Express Ferry (times will be announced per class) to Avalon with fellow students and your Instructor(s). The Seaport Village Inn van will meet our group at the dock to help us with transportation to the dive Site. They will take your personal luggage to the hotel and store it while you dive. You’ll make two – three dives with your PADI Instructor at Casino Point depending on conditions. Following the dives, your gear will be transported back to the hotel. The rest of the day is your to enjoy Avalon. Accommodations for the night is in a 4-5 person “2-Bedroom Guest Suite” with a full Bath and Kitchen. The smaller room sleeps a couple. The larger room sleeps two – three individuals. Requests for private accommodations will be considered at an additional cost if available.

Sunday morning you’ll awaken to an early Breakfast (Included) prior to making your final dives off Casino Point. The Seaport Village Inn will transport gear to the Dive Site. Following the dives, the Van will bring you back to the hotel or ferry. You’ll have some time to get lunch and share stories with your fellow – newly Certified dive buddies! Return times to the mainland will be announced in class.

 

Classes Limited to Eight Students per Instructor

Guests (divers & non-divers) – Hotel & Ferry Cost $170.00

 

Course Fees Include:

  • Tuition Fee
  • Classroom Materials
  • Rental Gear; Hood, Wetsuit, B.C.D., Regulator, Weights, &Tank.
  • PADI Open Water Certification Card once class is successfully completed
  • (4) Open Water Catalina Dives
  • Hotel Stay Saturday Night at the Seaport Village Inn
  • Breakfast on Sunday Morning
  • Transportation to and from the Hotel to Catalina Express and the Dive Site Casino Point both days.
  • Catalina Express Round Trip Ferry

 

Course Fees Do Not Include:

  • Parking ($12 for the weekend)
  • Air Fills between dives (About $8 x 3 Fills) includes tip
  • Meals other than Breakfast Sunday
  • Tips for Transportation Drivers appreciated
  • Basic Snorkeling Gear required

Orientation, medical clearances, (2) 2×2 passport style head shots, scuba gear sizing, reading and homework must be completed PRIOR to the start of your chosen class schedule. Remember, once you chose a class schedule, there are no refunds or changing classes. You are holding a spot and RC Scuba will not be reimbursed for the cost of your ferry to the island or your accommodations once booked.

Please be sure you can commit to an entire schedule. Please be sure you understand that accommodations are shared amongst 4-5 people over a 2 bedroom suite.

Swim tests-200 yard swim any style you’d like and 10 minute tread water.

Be sure to bring a bathing suit and towel. Pool is heated.
